Word Sorts
A method of word study addressing the wide developmental range and variety of word knowledge needs for students. Pictures sorts are helpful tools for developing phonological awareness in children who are just learning or have not yet learned how to read. Sorts can help build an understanding of language. Word sorting is not only for the emergent readers. Once students have mastered the basic sound-symbol relationship, they can continue on to comparing words and word patterns.
