Curriculum-Based Readers Theatre (CBRT)
CBRT differs from traditional Reader's Theatre in that its script topics come directly from the classroom content curriculum. Its emphasis is on informing and entertaining through dialogue. Its activities involve: demonstrating, comprehension, paraphrasing, summarizing, synthesizing, and communicating. Students read, write, and speak across the curriculum. It is similar to Reader's Theatre in that students practice reading scripts through the use of rereads. They incorporate the use of hand gestures and simple movements to add interest and assist in retention of information. Students are motivated to practice correct pronunciation, intonation, and expression in order to create an effective presentation. Students use repeated readings as practice for reading to become automatic.
